PRIDEX Fly Reel by J.W. YOUNG & SONS LTD

You are viewing my classic fly reel from the early 1960′s; the 3¼” diameter ‘contracted’ PRIDEX fly reel made by J.W. YOUNG & SONS LTD, Redditch, ENGLAND.   ’Contracted’ refers to the width of the line drum, which in this instance is approx 9/16″.  This reel would therefore be well suited for a fly line up to no. 4 or 5.

This reel would have been made at the Mayfields factory at Mount Pleasant, Redditch, England.

The PRIDEX fly reel was first introduced in 1945.  This particular reel has a perforated lne drum, indicating this reel dates from circa 1963.

Although this reel would benefit from a bit of a clean and there is a slight ‘flat spot’ in the frame, it does appear to be in good working order.  The check mechanisms both work perfectly (left and right).  The spool quick release mechanism appears to be original and works perfectly.  It is fitted with the removeable ‘clip-on line guard’, which was available as an extra when first produced.

This reel is genuine and original and is in very useable condition with some honest paint wear.

This is one to use or to put in your display of classic English fly reels.  If you require more photographs to assess the amount of paintwear please contact me.

This reel is loaded with an unknown fly line, which fully fills the line drum.
